urban house farms

MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT

Grow a surplus of organic food locally and restore ecosystems by creating biodiverse habitats in urban areas.

JOIN OUR COMMUNITY

Be part of an interactive trading and worker network that is focused on transparency and efficiency.

LET'S START BUILDING

Let's innovate planning, design, and construction by being more regenerative and optimized with technology.

WE HOUSE PEOPLE, PLANTS AND CREATE BIODIVERSE HABITATS

We are engaged in regenerative design and construction, permaculture, and organic farming, all aimed at restoring ecosystems and promoting local food production. We foster local trading with transparency and minimum carbon footprint, and focus on community building through collaboration. We are embarking on a impact business campaign that will help us capitalize on our efforts and build our trading network.

CITIES NEED TO BE REGENERATIVE

Current real estate developments are focused on making the most $ per square feet. We propose a switch to  a model of making the most positive impact on the ecosystem per square feet of urban real estate development. We are passionate about changing our inner cities and suburbs to become more renegerative, biodiverse and connected with nature

MOST REGENERATIVE ACTIVITIES

We have identified net plus organic vertical farming as one of the most regenerative activities.  By using clean energy and sustainable practices for the assembly or fabrication of the food growing systems in a Home, we intersect Food, Energy and Fabrication. These are needs in cities, but also huge sources of impact on our ecosystems.

PERMACULTURE IN CITIES

Permaculture is another practice that enhances the positive value of the impacts of Food, Energy and Fabrication. We also strive to use the limited space in urban residential properties to incorporate other permaculture components such as food forests.  Permaculture and net plus vertical farming activities result in a broad impact on economics, health, innovation, sustainability, climate, and biodiversity, among others.

ALL PROPERTIES SHOULD PRODUCE ORGANIC FOOD

By combining architecture, vertical farming and permaculture, we propose solutions to grow organic food at any type of urban property. These homes with farms make the following specific positive impacts:

  • Healthier food closer to home.
  • Community trading, collaboration and interaction.
  • Restoring the ecosystem by increasing natural capital

Property owners need incentives and service providers need support to provide these solutions

URBAN HOUSE FARMS @ FAIRVIEW

This is our most advanced project, with two urban house farms in two adjacent homes being built in the Fairview neighborhood in the San Francisco East Bay area. The property owner has commited most of the funds for the project, and with additional funding we will be able to maximize its generative impact and begin the farming /  trading activities, build network tools and community.

MULTI-DIMENSIONAL FARMS

We are currently focused on three types of Urban House Farms:

1) Green Roofs with edible gardens

2) Green Walls with edible plants

3) Mini food forests

All of these have many other regenerative values such as carbon sequestration, aesthetics and green economy growth, to name a few.

The first two types, which may also be referred to as Building Integrated Farms (BIF) have other important regenerative values such as energy efficiency, by enhancing and reducing the insulation for the home;  And the trifecta of reducing the ecological footprint, offsetting carbon and greenhouse gas emissions; by reducing the construction materials (of the walls and roofs).

The third type contributes with soil restoration and biodiversity. There are more imaginable positive impacts with this kind of project.

APPROVED BY THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT

The Urban House Farms @ Fairview will be built in 2025 in the Fairview neighborhood in Hayward, California.

We, as sustainable design-builders, have incorporated the three types of urban house farms for this project.

For “Home 2” , there will be a green roof and a green wall. For “Home 3” there will be a green wall that turns into a green roof, and a mini food forest. The project has been approved by the property owner, and by the planning department of Alameda county. The home owner lives in the adjacent and existing “Home 1” . We are commited to supporting our first home owner who is now officially an Urban House Farms developer.

URBAN HOUSE FARMS NETWORK

We have ten other property owners interested in becoming part of the network. These properties range from Single Family Homes, Multi-Unit, Commercial, and multi-story Mixed-Used Buildings. Each project adds momentum. Once there is more than one in a neighborhood, ideally of different types (for example a green wall or green roof project, and another that is  a mini food forest),  the trading is more effective and profitable.
